So the debate begins ….. First of all is it a Scone (con) or a Scone (cone or tone)?  Well that all seems to depend on where you’re from and generally its pronounced Scone (con) in the northern part of England and Scone (cone/tone) in the southern part of England.

Once you’ve decided what to call it you then need to decide whether it should be plain, fruit, sultana, cherry or savoury cheese? Oh decisions!

Then to the Jam and Cream – strawberry jam it has to be for me, can’t have raspberry or blackcurrant as the pips get stuck in your teeth and as for the cream, whipped double cream over clotted any day.

So now we move onto the assembly of your afternoon scone……………

Do we go with the Cornish way, jam first followed by cream or the Devonshire way, cream first followed by jam?  For me it has to be the Cornish way so the cream sits on top of the jam and can’t help getting that little be stuck on your upper lip!

And if you hadn’t had enough to think about it, it’s now time to choose your accompanying drink which just has to be a good old Traditional cup of English breakfast tea (milk in first, but that just opens another line of debate!)
